With the hope of giving our children the best literature possible, we have compiled this collection of read-aloud picture books. You will find books from a wide range of topics that deal with the young minds of today — stories which relate directly to the children to whom you read.

Even though these are picture books, many of the selections have very powerful messages and are wonderful for 5th and 6th grades (or older). A picture book is often an effective way to begin a unit or a meaningful discussion.

We at BookPALS are working hard to equip our readers with the best possible weapons to fight the battle against illiteracy.

Where Do Balloons Go? An Uplifting Mystery

Written by Jamie Lee Curtis, illustrated by Laura Cornell

Recommended Ages: 5 6 7

Where do balloons go? Have you ever wondered this while you watch them slowly climb their way up into the clouds? This book examines that mystery in the midst of posing other thought-provoking questions such as: Do they catch cold and need somewhere to stay? Can plain balloons read balloons printed with words? Are they always alone? Do they meet up in pairs? Consider these questions as you embark on the journey of a little boy's balloon.

The message: Balloons are precious, as are people; so hold on tight until you must let them go.
