With the hope of giving our children the best literature possible, we have compiled this collection of read-aloud picture books. You will find books from a wide range of topics that deal with the young minds of today — stories which relate directly to the children to whom you read.

Even though these are picture books, many of the selections have very powerful messages and are wonderful for 5th and 6th grades (or older). A picture book is often an effective way to begin a unit or a meaningful discussion.

We at BookPALS are working hard to equip our readers with the best possible weapons to fight the battle against illiteracy.

Pumpkin Jack

Written by Will Hubbell, illustrated by

Recommended Ages: K-2

Tim would have kept Jack forever, but the pumpkin was starting to rot. So Tim placed it outside in the garden. As time passed, Tim would check on Jack only to find further decomposition. Soon Jack was covered with snow...The following spring (after exploring the garden), Tim found some pumpkin seeds and planted them. Then he eagerly waited for the seeds to sprout and grow. Finally it happened--pumpkins! After they ripened, Tim shared his bounty with others. Moreover, the cycle continued: "From jack-o'-lantern--to seeds--to pumpkin again..."
